Withdrawal Agreement First Vote

On the morning of the vote, June 12, 2018, the government rejected Grieve`s alternative amendment. This has set the stage for disagreements during the debate in the House of Commons over whether Parliament should have a say whether the UK leaves the EU without a deal or not. [41] [43] In the morning, Phillip Lee also surprisingly resigned as a junior Conservative minister, stating: „If, in the future, I have to look my children in the eye and honestly say that I have done my best for them, I cannot argue in good conscience how our country`s current exit from the EU should be implemented.“ [44] British Brexit Minister David Davis and EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier began talks in Brussels on 19 June. The first round ended with Britain reluctantly agreeing to follow the EU`s timetable for the rest of the negotiations. The timeline divided the conversations into two phases. The former would regulate the terms of the UK`s withdrawal, and the latter would regulate the terms of EU-UK relations after Brexit. Labour`s amendment, which sought to grant the right of permanent residence to all EU citizens staying in the UK before the day of withdrawal, was rejected by 342 votes to 252. Agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community. L 29 31.01.19, pp. 7-187 The British Parliament has passed Prime Minister Boris Johnson`s Brexit Deal Act, which authorises the UK`s withdrawal from the EU.

The vote puts an end to years of wrangling over the first terms of Britain`s withdrawal. MEPs wrapped up the first of three days to review legislation to implement the UK`s Brexit deal. In the absence of significant changes in the positions of the political parties, as expected, the government was defeated in the Vote on 15Th January by 432 votes to 202. The 230-vote lead was the worst for a government in modern parliamentary history. [76] 196 Conservative MPs, 3 Labour MPs and 3 independent MPs supported the deal. These votes will take place two months before the end of each four-year period, with the first period starting at the end of December 2020 (when the transition period is expected to end). [26] If the Assembly is suspended at that time, arrangements will be made for Members to vote. If the Assembly expresses its inter-community support in one of these regular votes, the Minutes will apply for the next eight years instead of the usual four years. [26] However, if the Assembly votes against the continuation of these agreements, the UK and the EU will have two years to agree on new agreements. [24] [25] On 23 January 2020, the UK Parliament approved the draft Agreement (European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020). Following the signing of the Agreement, the Government of the United Kingdom issued and deposited the instrument of ratification of Great Britain on 29 January 2020.

[7] [8] The agreement was ratified by the Council of the European Union on 30 January 2020 after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament on 29 January 2020. .
